Support for 28 cities and municipalities in Serbia to strengthen gender equality

The Swiss PRO Programme, within the public call "Let’s Make Equality a Reality", supported 28 local self-governments to implement projects aimed at strengthening mechanisms for gender equality. More than 5,000 citizens will directly benefit from these projects.

With the support of the Government of Switzerland worth more than 90,000 euros and the co-funding of local self-governments in the amount of 25,000 euros, activities will be implemented that contribute to improving women's participation in the decision-making, status of women in the areas of economic empowerment, health, combating gender-based violence, as well as status of rural women and the quality of life of vulnerable, marginalized and women with disabilities.

LSGs will perform projects aimed at Promotion of European Charter for Equality of Women and Men in Local Life and strengthening competences of local gender equality mechanisms as well.

The following LSGs have received support for strengthening gender equality: Aranđelovac, Babušnica, Bela Palanka, Blace, Bujanovac, Bojnik, Dimitrovgrad, Golubac, Ivanjica, Knić, Kosjerić, Kraljevo, Kragujevac, Kruševac, Ljubovija, Medveđa, Niš, Nova Varoš, Pirot, Rača, Raška, Sokobanja, Svrljig, Topola, Ćićevac, Ćuprija, Vladimirci i Zaječar, while citizens from Čajetina and Vlasotince will be projects beneficiares as well.

The approved projects were selected through a public call which was open from 10 September until 23 October 2020, and 96 cities and municipalities in the regions of Šumadija and West Serbia and South and East Serbia were eligible to apply for support.
