Swiss Government Supports the Improvement of Social Protection Services at the Local Level

  • Belgrade, 3 March 2020

The Swiss PRO Programme has launched a public call under the slogan "Join Forces, Provide Support" aimed at increasing the availability and quality of social protection services for at least 500 beneficiaries from vulnerable social groups. Through this call, the Government of Switzerland will support up to 20 local governments with a total of EUR 242,000 in establishing an efficient and sustainable social protection system at the local level.

The public call will be open until 10 April 2020 and 96 cities and municipalities from the Šumadija and Western Serbia region and Southern Serbia and Eastern Serbia region are eligible to participate [1].

Local self-governments will be supported with up to EUR 12,100 per project aimed at establishing a new standardised social protection service that is not currently being provided, extending existing social protection services to include more users, or piloting an innovative social protection service.

The programme particularly encourages local self-governments to include the establishment of inter-municipal cooperation and cross-sectoral approaches in the project proposals. The project proposals which include a prepared needs assessment of vulnerable groups at the local level, the spending of the earmarked transfers in 2019, and a specific way of monitoring services will be additionally scored. Also, projects may include a partnership with a local Centre for Social Work.

More information about the call, eligibility criteria, manner of application and required documents can be found on the Swiss PRO webpage.
