For the third year in a row, the Ministry of Public Administration and Local Self-Government (MPALSG) selected four local self-governments that presented best practices in applying the principles of good governance in four areas:
The Ministry has made the Decision on allocation of funds from the Budgetary Fund for the annual award for the best town/municipal administration in 2020, which allocates the total funds in the amount of RSD 9,200,000 in four equal parts - RSD 2,300,000 for each awarded local self-government. The winners will also get, in four equal lots, additional funding amounting RSD 7,200,000, allocated by the Standing Conference of Towns and Municipalities (SCTM) from the budget of the Swiss PRO Programme.
In recognition of the efforts made by local self-governments and on the grounds of the achieved results, special awards are given to the City of Vršac in the category of Transparency and Public Participation in the Work of Local Self-Government, to the City of Niš in the category of Accountability and the Rule of Law, as well as to the cities Loznica and Subotica in the category of Equality and Anti-Discrimination.
The Ministry will sign grant agreements with the awarded local self-governments and will transfer the approved funds. Moreover, the SCTM will sign special grant agreements for the funds allocated from the Swiss PRO Programme budget with the awarded local self-governments.
The Annual Award for Best Practices in Applying Good Governance Principles at the Local Level was established in 2018 at the initiative of the Ministry, the SCTM and the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), with the support of the Swiss PRO Programme.
