The Town of Novi Pazar, the municipalities of Ruma and Vlasotince, and the Belgrade City Municipality of Vracar were the winners of the competition for best practices in the application of the principles of good governance during 2018.

The awards were presented by the Ministry of Public Administration and Local Self-Government (MPALSG) and the Standing Conference of Towns and Municipalities (SCTM), based on a public call, and from the funds of the project "Improving Good Governance at the Local Level", which is part of the wider programme "Enhancing Good Governance and Social Inclusion for Municipal Development – Swiss PRO", implemented by the UNOPS and the SCTM.

In this way, MPALSG, SCTM and UNOPS, through Swiss PRO Programme and with support of Swiss Government, wish to promote best practices and the results achieved at the local level, and further development and implementation of good governance principles in the work of local authorities.

The prize pool of a total value of just over 10,000 euros is a form of financial support for the improvement of good governance, i.e. the implementation of activities or the acquisition of goods and services proposed by the award winners, which have been previously approved by the selection committee.

Secretary General of the SCTM Djordje Stanicic highlighted that these awards were an expression of the wishes, needs and results of towns and municipalities and that the whole project related to good governance had thus received its practical expression.

Dzemil Divanefendic, Head of Town Administration of Novi Pazar, pointed out that the award for the area of Efficiency and Effectiveness is a positive effect of the e-office project, and that the obtained equipment will contribute to a more efficient and transparent work of the administration and to improving the quality of services provided to citizens.

Marinko Djordjevic, representative of Vlasotince municipality who received the award in the area of Accountability and the Rule of Law, announced the recent opening of a single administrative place in this municipality, and stressed that the equipment obtained will be used for equipping and more effective work of employees who will work in the administrative place.

Sasa Radivojevic from the Municipality of Ruma pointed out that the funds for the award in the area of Transparency and Public Participation in the work of local self-government were used for the procurement of medical equipment for the Health Center, of which citizens will benefit most.

Radmila Saric, Vice-Mayor of Vracar, emphasized that they used their award for the area of Equality and Non-Discrimination for their sensory doors and tactile paths in the renovated Health Center.
